PAS Johannesburg hosted a viewing party of President Obama’s YALI Town Hall for members of the Rosa Parks Library Youth Club.

The Assistant Public Affairs Officer kicked off the event by acquainting members and other attendees with the Mandela Washington Fellowship and the YALI Network and presenting certificates to members of the community that serve as mentors to our young library patrons. The viewing party not only gave the audience an idea of what the U.S. is doing with youth on the continent, but also gave them a chance to see other young Africans using creativity and innovation to make a difference.

The inspiration created from the Town Hall was evident from the lively conversation that ensued after watching the video. The young people shared and discussed their own understanding of what President Obama meant with the phrase, “Africa is on the move”, with many hopeful and optimistic visions for the future. The dialogue created a platform for these young people to give thought to how they too can change their communities, their country, and their continent.
