The KwaZulu-Natal Science Centre is partnering with M-Net to host M-Net’s Magic in Motion Career Expo in Durban on August 18-21.  The career exhibition will target grade 11 pupils to develop local talent in the film and television industry.  The Centre’s CEO Candice Potgieter is a 2014 Mandela Washington Fellow and Young African Leaders Initiative alumna.

After she returned from the Young African Leaders Initiative in Washington, Ms. Potgieter hit the ground running with educational outreach programs in KwaZulu-Natal, such as the Mathematics Bridge-In programme, in partnership with parastatal giant Transnet.  Under her leadership, the KwaZulu-Natal Science Centre has partnered with the provincial Department of Education on a mathematics and science programme that will see teachers and pupils at underperforming schools receive training.

Potgieter is passionate about improving the quality of education, especially in science.  Since her appointment as CEO, the number of people visiting the Centre has grown from 40 000 to 100 000 a year; 70 percent are from previously disadvantaged communities.
