As part of its month-long programming throughout August to commemorate Women’s Month, the U.S. Mission to South Africa is hosting the President, CEO, and Co-Founder of WEConnect International, Ms. Elizabeth Vazquez, to present a series of workshops and lead discussions with women entrepreneurs and business leaders in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town August 28- September 1, 2017.
A world leader in women’s economic empowerment, Ms. Vazquez is a member of the UN Secretary-General’s High Level Panel on Women’s Economic Empowerment. She sits on the Board of Directors of the Cornerstone Capital Group and Win-Win Strategies, and is a W20 Representative to advance G20 commitments. Her corporate-led non-profit organization, WEConnect International, helps to empower women business owners to succeed in global markets in America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
During her South African tour, Ms. Vazquez will partake in a variety of discussions with women business leaders and entrepreneurs at a range of venues, including: the Business Women Association of South Africa (BWASA, The Innovation Hub in Pretoria, and the Cape Chamber of Commerce. South Africa’s WEConnect office will host Ms. Vazquez for sessions at the Absa Enterprise Development Centre in Newtown and at the Jozi SME Hub in Diepkloof, Soweto.
Chargé d’Affaires Jessye Lapenn underscored the importance of economic empowerment programs for women, noting that “improving women-owned businesses’ access to capital and markets is instrumental to improving economic conditions for everyone, everywhere. And when that happens, there are demonstrable benefits not just to business owners, but also to families, communities, and government. Working together to promote the advancement of women in business will lead to greater prosperity and security for both of our nations.”
