Applications are now open for the EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program. Through regular meetings and seminars, this program, funded by the United States Mission to South Africa, supports talented and determined learners and students from low-income backgrounds, to apply for scholarships and admission to colleges and universities in the United States.

The EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program for undergraduate studies is open to current matriculants and gap year students only. The program finances the cost of the application process, including registration fees for the required standardized examinations. South African citizens or permanent residents with a strong academic record, robust participation in extracurricular activities, involvement in leadership roles, and an excellent community service record are encouraged to apply.

The EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program accepts applications for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
Students who wish to pursue postgraduate studies in the United States are requested to complete the graduate application form.

Successful applicants will work with a team of EducationUSA Advisers from July 2020 to August 2021 to try to secure places and financial assistance to begin study in the U.S. in August 2021. Participants must have access to the internet on a bi-weekly basis during the program for full participation. Entrance into the EducationUSA Opportunity Fund Program does not guarantee a scholarship or financial assistance to study in the United States but over the last eight years the dedicated EducationUSA team has helped more than 200 excellent South African students make their dream of studying in the United States come true. Nineteen-year-old Sihle Zola is one of these students. “EducationUSA not only funded my application fees, my visa, a round-trip to the USA, and a settling allowance but also is the main reason why I made it to the USA,” she said. Zola, who hails from Cape Town, is studying business administration at the California State University Easy Bay. “Studying in the USA is a dream that has come true and wouldn’t have been possible without the help of EducationUSA,” Zola said.
