The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) and Power Africa, through the Regional Leadership Centre for Southern Africa (RLC-SA) will host its first Young Women in African Power Graduation Ceremony on Friday 26, October 2018 at the University of South Africa (UNISA) in Pretoria.

The YALI Southern African program aims to develop multiple cohorts of young African leaders in Business and Entrepreneurship Development; Civic Leadership; and Public Management and Governance through a hybrid of innovative and complementary approaches that include contact sessions; online mentoring; online self-paced tuition; networking experiences; industry experience and experiential learning.

Thirty-seven hand-picked women from 26 countries across Africa will be graduating from this program. The ‘Women in Power’ program commenced on October 01 2018 with the aim of supporting the career development of a new generation of women leaders in the energy sector. The training equips a new generation of women leaders and better positions them to contribute to Africa’s energy sector.

“This program is funded by Power Africa and is housed at the University of South Africa – Graduate School of Business Leadership (Unisa SBL) in Midrand. Unisa is proud to be one of four Regional Leadership Centres in Africa that serve as regional hubs across the continent to impart transformational learning experiences and leadership skills to emerging young African leaders”, said Ms. Karen Haycock, YALI RLC-Southern Africa – Operations Manager.

According to Power Africa Coordinator Andrew M. Herscowitz, “These young women bring tremendous talent and drive to the power sector across the continent. We wanted to support a venue where these women could network, engage and learn from experts and one another so that they can help double access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa.”

YALI Regional Leadership Center Southern Africa is established through public-private partnerships with USAID, Mastercard Foundation, Unisa as its core sponsoring partners.
