Planned Protest at U.S. Consulate General Cape Town on Wednesday, July 13, 2016
July 12, 2016
The U.S. Consulate General in Cape Town informs U.S. citizens that a demonstration is expected to take place in front of the Consulate at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2016. We have been informed that the protestors will be demonstrating to raise U.S. government awareness of the Black Lives Matter movement. As this protest was not coordinated with the City of Cape Town, we are uncertain of its potential size or where they plan to gather. However, you should anticipate they will gather in front of the Consulate on Reddam Avenue.
Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
