The U.S. Diplomatic Mission to South Africa informs U.S. citizens of a demonstration planned for today, Friday, February 19 at 10:00a.m. in Pretoria.  The demonstration is organized by the African National Congress (ANC) to mobilize support for economic and social issues.  Tshwane Metro Police have approved the march.  The number of participants is unknown at this time.  Disruptions to motor vehicle traffic and road closures are expected in the vicinity of the march.

U.S. citizens are reminded that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings or protests.  For the latest information on the ANC demonstration, please consult the ANC websiteand monitor local media sources. 

March Route:  According to the ANC website, the march will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Burger’s Park, and will conclude at the Union Buildings by way of Lillian Ngoyi Street and Madiba Street.  The participants should disperse by 4:00 p.m.
