Demonstration Alert: Taxi Protest in uMhlanga, Durban – September 19, 2023
Location: Durban, South Africa
Event: There is currently an ongoing taxi driver protest resulting in road blockages near/around the Pearls Mall area in uMhlanga. It is recommended to avoid the area at this time until the protest has subsided. Please monitor local media reports for further updates. Local law enforcement is monitoring the situation.
The Consulate reminds all U.S. citizens to:
- Avoid demonstrations and use vigilance during your movements around the area. Even events intended to be peaceful can become violent.
- Maintain caution in areas frequented by foreigners.
- Monitor news and Alerts.
