Security Alert – Cape Town Transit Strikes – August 7, 2023 

Location: Cape Town, South Africa

 

Event: There are ongoing transit strikes in Cape Town. The strikes have the potential to turn violent and may affect traffic throughout Cape Town to include routes to and from the airport. Please check for any disruption on your route before traveling and take caution if following GPS directions through unfamiliar areas.

 

The Consulate reminds all U.S. citizens to:

  • Avoid demonstrations and use vigilance during your movements around the area. Even events intended to be peaceful can become violent.
  • Maintain caution in areas frequented by foreigners.
  • Monitor news and Alerts.
