Reconnecting with Fulbright Alumni

Lots of laughter, stories of U.S. adventures, and memories from being a Fulbrighter were exchanged at a recent reception where the Embassy hosted The Fulbright Program alumni affiliated to the University of Pretoria.

Our Acting Deputy Chief of Mission, Elizabeth McKay, enjoyed the opportunity to meet alumni who are making their mark on academia in South Africa. “Even after two years in Pretoria, there are so many people who I have wanted to meet, so an event like this is very important to me. It gives me – and you all, too! – the opportunity to meet or reconnect with other Fulbright alumni who are all playing a vital role in the next generation of South Africa,” McKay said.

Denver Hendricks, Director of the Department of University Relations, a Fulbright alumnus himself, thanked the Embassy for its continued partnership with UP and reflected on how the Fulbright scholarship influenced his career.

The reception was an opportunity for Fulbright alumni to meet each other and strengthen the network of alumni who are doing terrific things in South Africa!

Fulbrighters were also introduced to Tshepang Mabusela, our alumni coordinator, who is updating our alumni list. If you have been on a U.S. Department of State Exchange Program, and are not yet part of our alumni network, please email your contact details to mabuselat@state.gov
