PEPFAR Community Grants Program
The PEPFAR Community Grants Program provides direct funding to community-based organizations working in the districts with the highest HIV burden in South Africa. The program has an annual call for applications, with organizations selected for funding through a competitive, multi-stage process. Non-profit organizations from across South Africa receive grants of up to R750,000. Grantees provide:
- Community-based care and support for people living with HIV, including facilitating adherence clubs, support groups, and case management;
- HIV testing and counseling; and
- Evidence-based HIV prevention activities, including activities focused on promoting positive parenting, and reducing HIV stigma and gender-based violence.
The Community Grants Program is a critical component of PEPFAR because it reaches local communities, builds the capacity of community-based and community-drive organizations, and makes a direct impact in the lives of those funded.
