Mandela Washington Fellow‬ Inspires Young Learners

Young African Leadership Initiative alumnus and 2014 Mandela Washington Fellow Creesen Naicker, in partnership with the MRP Foundation, has introduced young learners to technology in the classroom at Nyakana Combined Primary School near Stanger, in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

Through its ‎TechEd initiative, MRP has donated 100 tablets and 30 computers to Nyakana, benefitting more than 1500 pupils. Activities focus on basic literacy and numeracy in the lower grades, while computer-aided instruction reinforces mathematics and language skills for older learners.

U.S. Consul General Frances Chisholm visited Nyakana Primary on August 18th with Creesen. She encouraged students to make the most of their unique opportunity, study hard, and actively seek ways to give back to the community. Creesen emphasized that technology needs to be integrated with education to improve learners’ capacity saying, “The aim of this project is to improve education through innovation.
