KZN textile, apparel, and footwear companies, business leaders, and government officials attended an Export Seminar at the American Corner in Pietermaritzburg organized by U.S. Consulate General  Durban in coordination with the USAID Southern Africa Trade Hub.

Consul General Frances Chisholm encouraged export-ready textile and footwear manufacturers to seize the opportunity to enter the U.S. market.  With the U.S. ranking tops as destination for products exported from  KwaZulu-Natal, the Consul General described her focus on  promoting bilateral trade and investment.

USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub Senior Textiles/Apparel Advisor Mohamed Abouiiana pointed out opportunities and challenges in accessing the U.S. market, with special attention to niche markets like technical textiles.

Abouiiana also discussed opportunities for KZN companies to participate in the most important annual pan-African textile, clothing and footwear trade event on the trade show calendar – Source Africa, taking place in Cape Town, June 10 and 11.
