KZN youth discuss radio industry challenges
DURBAN, JULY 28, 2016 – The National Community Radio Forum-KwaZulu Natal, in partnership with the U.S. Consulate in Durban, hosted the Youth in Media Annual Dialogue at Durban City Hall.
About 120 youth from across the province of KwaZulu-Natal attended the event, including students from University of Zululand, Durban University of Technology (DUT), Creative Arts College, and representatives from the provincial community radio industry.
The dialogue included topics such as the role of community radio in empowering and developing youth broadcasting skills for democracy education and toward a better future in South Africa, as well as current challenges facing media in South Africa
Provincial Liaison for the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) Chalone Savant highlighted the importance of using media to communicate information about HIV/AIDS to youth audiences
Other speakers included NCRF-KZN Chairperson Simon Ntsele, award winning broadcasting legend and radio veteran Vusi Letsoalo, radio personality Archie Majola, and Advocate Robin Sewlal, Associate Director in Journalism at Top of Form
