In March last year, the South African-owned freight, transport and logistics company announced GE won a contract to produce 233 locomotives for the SA rail freight network. This is in addition to the 143 locomotives that Transnet has ordered from GE since 2010.
More than $500 million has been invested to develop the Evolution Series line since 2005, making it the most advanced heavy-haul, diesel-electric locomotive in the world. 5000 new jobs in local rail and associated industries and skills development programs are just a few of the benefits of this partnership.
