Important Notice: With few exceptions, no information regarding a U.S. citizen overseas may be released to any individual without a Privacy Act waiver signed by the U.S. citizen for which an inquiry has been made.

For emergencies involving U.S. citizens (such as cases involving the serious illness, injury, arrest, victim of crime, or death of a U.S. citizen) please contact the U.S. Consulate General – Johannesburg (for assistance for U.S. citizens in the provinces of Gauteng, Northwest, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and Free State).

Booking Online Appointments for ACS Services Johannesburg

The Consulate General in Johannesburg will be implementing revised hours of operation and an appointment only system effective April 26, 2013.

Please note that with the exception of emergency situations, all U.S. citizens services are now by appointment only. To book an appointment, please click here. You do not need an appointment to pick up a passport.

  • Notarials/Federal Benefit Inquiries*: Monday-Thursday
  • CRBAs (Consular Report of Birth Abroad): Monday-Thursday (mornings only)

If none of the above match the service you require, please email acsjohannesburg@state.gov for an appointment. We can only accommodate walk-ins for emergency services.

Please Note: There is no public parking available for American Citizens Services clients at U.S. Consulate Johannesburg.  Vehicles stopping and passenger drop-offs at U.S. Consulate Johannesburg driveways are not permitted.  Please be advised that vehicles may not stop or stand on Sandton Drive in front of U.S. Consulate Johannesburg to drop off, or pick-up passengers for any reason.  For a fee, secured parking is available at Sandton City Shopping Mall across the street from U.S. Consulate Johannesburg.

The Consulate General in Johannesburg is closed on Fridays from 12 p.m. and on all U.S. and South African Public holidays. The Consular Section will not be able to provide non-emergency citizen services after hours or on weekends or holidays.
