Important Notice: With few exceptions, no information regarding a U.S. citizen overseas may be released to any individual without a Privacy Act waiver signed by the U.S. citizen for which an inquiry has been made.

For emergencies involving U.S. citizens (such as cases involving the serious illness, injury, arrest, victim of crime, or death of a U.S. citizen) please contact: U.S. Consulate General – Durban (for assistance for U.S. citizens in the province of Kwazulu-Natal)

Booking Online Appointments for ACS Services

The Consulate General in Durban will be implementing revised hours of operation and an appointment only system effective April 26, 2013.

Please note that with the exception of emergency situations, all U.S. citizens services are now by appointment only. Business hours for all services are Monday – Thursday: 8:00 to 5:00 p.m., and Friday: 8:00 to 12:00 noon. Closed to the public every Friday.

You do not need an appointment to pick up a passport.

  • Passport Services: Monday-Thursday
  • Notarials/Federal Benefit Inquiries*: Monday-Thursday
  • CRBAs (Consular Report of Birth Abroad): Monday-Wednesday (mornings only)

If none of the above match the service you require, please email consulardurban@state.gov for an appointment. We can only accommodate walk-ins for emergency services.

  • For Federal Benefits Inquiries, please select an appointment for “other services.”

The Consulate General in Durban is closed on Fridays from 12 p.m. and on all U.S. and South African Public holidays. The Consular Section will not be able to provide non-emergency citizen services after hours or on weekends or holidays.
