Demonstration Alert – U. S. Consulate Johannesburg, South Africa (March 19, 2018)

Location: Sandton, Gauteng

Event: The Chemical, Energy, Paper, Printing, Wood and Allied Workers Union (CEPPWAWU) is scheduled to hold a demonstration on Monday, March 19, 2018, at the Sasol Head Office, in Sandton, Johannesburg. CEPPWAWU is protesting a remuneration agreement. The City of Johannesburg has issued a permit for 1,000 participants, from 11:00 to 14:00.  Demonstrators are expected to gather at George Lea Park and march along Sandton Drive to the Sasol Head Office at the corner of Katherine Street and Pybus Road.

  • Avoid the areas of the demonstrations.
  • Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Keep a low profile.
