Demonstration Alert – U. S. Consulate General Cape Town, South Africa (October 3, 2018)

Location: Central Business District, Cape Town, South Africa

Event: Demonstrations by the #Shutdown Cape Town Movement are planned to take place on October 3, 2018 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the Central Business District of Cape Town. Participants are expected to march from Keizersgracht Street down Darling, Buitenkant and Roeland Streets to the South African National Parliament building. The approved protest plan then has the protest proceeding down Plum, Adderly, and Wale Streets to the Western Cape Provincial Legislature buildings and then returning via the same route to the start point. Up to 10,000 people are expected to gather for the demonstration, and they will possibly disrupt traffic, transportation services, and other normal operations in the city.

The U.S. Consulate General Cape Town will remain open during regular business hours (8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am to 2:00 pm on Friday).
