Consul General Chisholm visited Iqraa Trust Chairman Dr. Mahmoud Youssef-Baker on May 25. Dr. Baker briefed the Consul General on the Trust’s support for a wide range of projects in education and skills development, health care initiatives, and youth development.
CG Chisholm noted the common interests of the U.S. Government and the Iqraa Trust in promoting strong health systems, investing in basic education, and partnering with the South African Government to equip youth with the skills to compete in a global economy.
The U.S. initiative to combat HIV/AIDS in Africa, known as the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) directs funds to support child-centered, family-focused, community-based, and government-supported programming for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC). In turn, OVCs are the primary beneficiaries of many of the Iqraa Trust’s programs, including the Trust’s Orphans Endowment Fund.
